THE POWER OF ONE MAN

You are not a minority, you are powerful enough to create the change that the world needs.

In my recent visit to Abu Dhabi, my brother and I visited a senior colleague in his exquisite home. He had been in the United Arab Emirates for many years. Then we got talking about Nigeria; how bad the state of the nation is, the terrible and untrustworthy leadership, the failed government, corruption and how everybody is leaving the country for greener pasture.

Then, I started telling him that Nigeria will still become a great nation to be proud of in the future. Surprisingly, he got angry and said “Nigeria can never be better, all hope is lost” I insisted it will. We argued for a while and he asked me a question, “Who will make Nigeria a great nation” I said “It’s me.” I added and you, you, you (pointing to people there). Everybody laughed at me and said you are a minority, you can’t change Nigeria, “you are not even a leader in politics” he added. Yet, it dawned on me that God is relying on “me” to make this country great.

Not to make this post unnecessarily long, it takes only one man or woman to cause a revolutional transformation in any society. You don’t need position, title or office to cause a positive change. Why? Here it is:

So I sought for A MAN among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found NO ONE- Ezekiel 22:30

God does not look for a multitude to cause a positive change. In the scripture above, God says He is looking for just 1 MAN, not 2,3,10,50, 100 0r 1,000,000. When we talk about national transformation and development, we often look at others, dismissing our own part. God, at several times proved to us that he only needs one man to make a change.

Just one man “ABRAHAM” to start a righteous nation.

Just one man “MOSES” to deliver a nation.

Just one man “JOSEPH” to preserve the world.

Just on woman “DEBORAH” to Judge a nation.

Just one man “GIDEON” to rescue a whole country.

Just one man “DAVID” to lead a nation.

Just one man “PAUL” to win the Gentile world.

Just one woman “MARY” to carry the Lord Jesus.

Just one man “ADAM” to start  the human race that’s now over 7billion.

Just one man “JESUS” to save the whole world.

Just one man. Are you the one man or woman?

Many times we overemphasize what thousands of people can do but underemphasize what one man or woman can do-Juwon Owolabi

Jack Kemp was right when he said

"The power of one man or woman doing the right thing for the right reason and at the right time, is the greatest influence in our society”

It takes ONE vote for a presidential candidate to win or lose an election

It takes ONE second for an athlete to win or lose

A man like Martin Luther is what it took to start the great reformation

A man like John Knox is what it took to start the revival in Scotland

A man like Nelson Mandela is what it took to stop apartheid

A man like Abraham Lincoln is what it took to annihilate slavery in the world

A man like Sunday Adalaja is what it took to bring a transformation to Ukraine

A man like Martin Luther King Jnr is what it took to stop injustice and racism in the States of America

To stop inequality

To stop corruption

To build a city, it takes one man.

It took Steve Jobs to change our world of computers

It took the vision of one man to land on the moon.

It took one man’s vision to invent cars, electricity, the lightbulb, telephone, radio, train… just one man.

Don’t despise the power you carry to change the world.

Your little gift, talent, potential, vision and ability may be all that your nation needs to be great.

Don’t wait until you're big, your little contributions can make a big difference.

Don’t wait until you’re famous, your little help can bring you fame.

Don’t wait until you have everything, your little donations can save a life

Your singular vision will make this nation GREAT.

“One person can make the difference and every one should try”- JFK

Let me conclude with Bob Riley,

“One person can make a difference. In fact, it’s not only possible for one person to make a difference, it’s essential that one person makes a difference. And believe it or not, that person is you”

God bless Nigeria!

Juwon Owolabi.
